The most promising companies in the WEF Emerging Technologies 2024

The World Economic Forum identified the technologies based on an annual survey. Although high expectations are placed on the future development and significance of these technologies, a detailed quantification of these technologies is only possible in a very aggregated form using estimates based on traditional indicators such as research and development spending or sales.

EconSight has taken a closer look at WEF Emerging Technologies 2024 and analysed them from a patent perspective to identify the most relevant companies and research institutions active in each of these technologies. We have produced precise competitive environments for each technology.

There are major differences between the technologies. Some are still very much in the basic research phase, with a high proportion of university patents. Others are presumably driven by large companies due to high investment costs, while others have an entrepreneurial mix with many small specialists. The technologies also differ in terms of their development phases or technological readiness. Some have a longer lead time, which is usually visible from 2010 onwards. Others have only been visible for a few years.
