What are Aerogels, Xerogels
Aerogels and xerogels are lightweight, highly porous materials derived from gels in which the liquid component has been replaced with gas. Aerogels are produced through supercritical drying, preserving an open porous structure that gives exceptional thermal insulation and extremely low density. Xerogels are dried under ambient conditions, resulting in a denser, more shrunken structure. Applications include insulation, filtration, and catalyst support materials.
