Pressure tanks are not new and have been produced for years mainly from metal. The demand for lightweight and safe Hydrogen tanks is however key for a successful application of Hydrogen in transport. Hydrogen is not only the lightest gas available and places strong demands on sealing techniques, it is also explosive in air/oxygen mixtures. New technologies such as composite tanks have been successfully developed for car applications, while process integrated tanks for fuel stations, ships or heavy-duty vehicles are being developed, as well. This field is a subfield of Hydrogen Generation and Storage, but covers the specific demand for high pressure secure H2 gas tanks, which are one of the many key factors in successful H2 upscaling.
